What’s known as “the advice process” (through Laloux’s Reinventing Organizations) is a defined process of getting feedback on a decision before making it. There could be an agreed-upon practice that anyone can make a decision after having spoken to a specific number of people – for example three people.
In the language of context stewardship, this is a requirement to check with the context before making a choice – and that “context” is defined as “three people.” This presumes that those three people know relevant information about said choice.
Another ways to define this are to stipulate that any decision-making person or group needs to check their plans with relevant or affected people – which presumes that people can know who would be relevant to check in with.
Assuming that checking every decisions with everyone involved is not viable because of bandwidth issues, the approaches we are left with only provide a reductionist container for context checking. It’s another example of how making rules or stipulations that add simplification to draw a line in the sand to make something manageable without reducing it too much.
